About the Arctic tern

Arctic terns breed in the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions of Europe, Asia, and North America. They are medium-sized boisterous birds with shrill, grating high-pitched calls and eat mainly fish and small marine  Arctic terns enjoy two summers each year. They migrate from their Arctic breeding grounds to the Antarctic for the southern summer and back again ~6 months later. Their average annual roundtrip can be up to ~90,000 km (~56,000 miles) and is by far the longest in the animal kingdom.
